Rain: So it's day two of our excellent adventure and things are off to a wonderful start. We meant to get up and go bright and early at 9am, but didn't wind up actually leaving town until about noon. Not surprising, given the amount of fun we had at the send-off Winesday the night before... but after a leisurely breakfast and a stop for one last Italian soda at the Grindstone, we were on the way! We took back roads through New Hampshire (with a few accidental detours) and got to Ferry Beach right around dinnertime. For those of you who don't know, Ferry Beach is one of my absolute most favorite places on this earth. The place is beautiful, and there is a wonderfully warm and welcoming community here that I love coming back to again and again. I look forward all year to coming here every summer, so I'm very glad that it has been the first stop on our road trip.
Samantha: Hey folks! The trip is going smoothly thus far. We had a delightful send off, capped with a happy run-in with Dr. Ben Luce at the Grindstone. He blessed me with his hat, and I am so joyful! Ferry beach is charming, and I'm glad I got to join Rain in one of her favorite yearly events. The people here are very lovely, and the beach is gorgeous. One of the sandiest ones on the Maine coast, warm buoyant salt water, so good for the soul! We set up camp quickly, greeted the sea and many of Rain's fine friends, watched the No-Talent talent show (very talented in fact), and after that I was exhausted and fell fast asleep. Today, we've ridden our bicycles to Old Orchard beach (see sinister snacks below), swam in the Atlantic (free, drifting, cradled and content), and are currently enjoying UU company at the dinner table.
I'm very pleased to begin this journey in the Atlantic ocean, in such an enchanting place. Those of you I'm missing and who are missing me, I love you! Like I've told many, you are of course here with me.
