Rain: After travelling down the coast, we stayed with my good friend Fatuma and her family in San Jose for a few days. She used to live in Vermont and we were like sisters, but she moved out to California about seven years ago and I hadn't seen her since. So of course, I was very excited to see her and the wonderful little family she has made! She has a four-year-old son named Alexander, and a one-year-old daughter named Jennifer. I think Alex and I became pretty good buddies... he is at that wonderful, inquisitive/bossy stage that kids go through and he would go around asking me all sorts of questions about everything he saw. Certainly a smart little fellow!
As soon as we got to Fatuma's place we went to her mother's apartment nearby and saw the whole family, which was a wonderful surprise. They are a large, boisterous, tight-knit family and fun to be with- I hadn't seen any of them in years either, so it was good to catch up again. We had a day outing with the whole family the first full day we were there. We went to Ocean Beach in San Francisco where Samantha, Alex, and I played in the waves; wandered around China Town for a bit and bought some fun fruits; then went to a little Mexican restaurant in San Jose for dinner.
After that Samantha and I took some day trip around the area, which are each encapsulated in their own posts. We had some adventures trying to get out of town on the last day, which Samantha may or may not write about, we'll see. I didn't wind up taking that many pictures at the house, but here are a few of me with the kids:
